WHAT IS A UNITED STATES MILITARY VETERAN?

TITLE 38 OF THE CODE OF FEDERAL REGULATIONS DEFINES A VETERAN AS A “PERSON WHO SERVED IN THE ACTIVE MILITARY, NAVAL, OR AIR SERVICE, AND WHO WAS DISCHARGED OR RELEASED UNDER CONDITIONS OTHER THAN DISHONORABLE.”

IF THE ABOVE DESCRIPTION OF A VETERAN DOES NOT APPLY TO YOU PERSONALLY, YOU ARE NOT A U.S. MILITARY VETERAN. IF YOU COMPLETE AND SUBMIT A NEW MEMBER APPLICATION OR A MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL REQUEST, YOU ARE IN VIOLATION TITLE 38 OF THE CODE OF FEDERAL REGULATIONS AS DEFINED ABOVE. FURTHERMORE, IF YOU COMPLETE AND SUBMIT THE DUES PAYMENT SECTION OF THE NEW MEMBER OR A MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL, IT WILL BE DISREGARDED AND YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR CANCELLING OR REFUNDING OF PAYMENT.

Paper Applications are available at the post (or CLICK HERE to download) and require a copy of the veteran DD214.  Annual membership dues are $55.00

The qualifiers for membership in the American Legion include:

1: Citizenship – must be a U.S. citizen or U.S. National.

2: Honorable Service – must have served in the Armed Forces of the United States since December 7, 1941 and either received a discharge of Honorable or General (Under Honorable Conditions) or be currently serving.
